Potential Members

Thank you for your interest in serving with the True North AmeriCorps Program!  AmeriCorps is an amazing opportunity to serve your community while gaining job skills and an education award upon successful completion of a year of service.  Be sure to read more about AmeriCorps and our program, what AmeriCorps members do, and view the available host sites where members serve.

Becoming a True North AmeriCorps Member is a process that helps match applicants to the right positions.

Step 1: Apply
You must complete the True North AmeriCorps member application online. We do not accept the AmeriCorps application (through www.americorps.gov) or resumes. You must have two professional references.

Step 2: Phone Screening
Qualified applicants receive a phone call from our staff within ten business days of receiving an application. During this 10-15 minute phone conversation we will ask you a few simple questions and you may ask us questions.

Step 3: Screening
This screening is for our program staff to meet with you to go over program details. Depending on where you are located, you may complete this by phone. This screening may be individual or with a group of applicants. Staff will determine if you meet the requirements to continue in the process.  During this screening, you may be asked to access the Screening Presentation from a computer with internet access.

Step 4: Host Site Interview
If all requirements are met, qualified applicants can interview at Host Sites. You will select (up to 5) Host Sites that you are most interested in being placed at and you will contact the Host Site to set up an interview. Host Site contact information is on the True North website. Most interviews will take place during the months of June and July.

Step 5: Offer Made
If chosen, the Host Site will call to offer you a position. If you accept, then you will need to connect with True North Staff to notify them of your placement. We will get details to you about official enrollment into the program. Most positions will be filled by August 1, 2012. If you are not offered a position or feel that the site is not a good fit, you can continue to interview at more sites (up to 5).

Step 6: Background Check
All offers made are contingent on the results of a finger printing background check. True North will pay for the cost and help set appointments. If you have prior offenses, you are not automatically disqualified. However, not disclosing a prior offense is grounds for disqualification.

Step 7: Documentation and Orientation
There will be documentation that you will need to submit prior to enrollment. True North Staff will provide you will a check list of these items (paperwork, eligibility document(s), and background check release forms). All members must attend a mandatory orientation before they can start their year of service. During orientation, you will fill out necessary paperwork and receive program guidelines for successful program completion.

Step 8: Start Your Service
Congratulations, you are officially a True North AmeriCorps Member! Your yearlong commitment to serve starts August 16, 2012.
