Benefits of Membership
Education award upon successful completion of program
After successfully completing a term of service, AmeriCorps members who are enrolled in the National Service Trust are eligible to receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. You can use your education award to pay education costs at qualified institutions of higher education, for educational training, or to repay qualified student loans.
Modest living allowance on the 15th and last day of each month of service
Members receive a biweekly living allowance that can either be a direct deposit or a mailed check. True North recommends that applicants take a careful look at their financial situation to determine if they can afford to commit to serve for one year with the program. See attachments below for living allowance breakdown.
Student loan deferment/forbearance (on qualifying student loans)
AmeriCorps members have the ability to put qualified student loans on deferment/forbearance. Upon successful completion of the program, the interest that has accrued on those loans will be paid.
Basic health and dental insurance (Full Time Members)
Full Time Members are eligible for basic health and dental insurance. Further information is available during Member Screening session.
Childcare assistance (Full Time Members)
Full-time members can qualify to receive child care assistance. There are income eligibility requirements that must be met in order to receive reimbursement.
Duluth Area Family YMCA membership
All True North AmeriCorps Members receive full benefits of a membership at Duluth Area Family YMCA.
Leadership Skills
Members have a chance to develop leadership skills through trainings and hands on activities throughout the year. Second year members are a part of a leadership track and lead small groups of first year AmeriCorps Members throughout their year of service.
Skills in Volunteer Management
Volunteer management is a cornerstone of service with True North AmeriCorps. Members are taught to recruit, train, maintain, and celebrate volunteers within their organization.
A Chance to Give Back!
AmeriCorps Members have a chance to give back to their community through their service. Thousands of youth in the area are served through the service of AmeriCorps Members across Northeastern Minnesota!
